IT'S PRETTY BAD – Don't Trust The Hype! | Magic: Legends Open Beta Impressions

Magic Legends Open Beta turned out to be a massive disappointment for me and a lot of other ARPG fans.

We’ve expected Diablo or Path of Exile in Magic the Gathering universe, and instead got introduced to something that looks like it was created in 1995, with laggy poor performance, no chat moderation, bad level design with not enough action happening, snooze-fest of a story.

The only good things about Magic: Legends are the selection of hero classes and their abilities, which work like Magic the Gathering Cards – a fresh way to arm your character in an ARPG world.

I can’t imagine many Magic The Gathering community members liking Magic Legends – at least in the state currently presented to us in the Open Beta, which SHOULD be there to make people excited. But it simply isn’t doing that for me.

  1. I had multiple occasions where my summons, NPCs and enemies would just stand around not doing anything. The game is very gimmicky and falls apart in every way outside of that really interesting gimmick. I don't know why it's getting so much praise. I wish Last Epoch got this much positive coverage in beta…

  2. Good video, but very disappointing conclusion. I was really hoping for something similar to the 1997 / 1998 MtG game which is still one of my all time favourites but this is a big letdown.

  3. I've been playing Magic since 1995. I knew this was going to be god awful when it was announced. Thank you so much for taking the time to subject yourself to this atrocity and saving me the time to confirm my suspicions. I will happily avoid this travesty – Outriders has been a LOT of fun, so I'll be sticking with that as my alternate game to WoW. Thanks Gyro!

  4. feels like a game made in the mid 2000s, level design sux, combat feels crappy, basic attacks are boring and spells are laggy and becomes boring after a couple of hours of the same spells over and over. WAY to much walking from a to z i feel like im doing an old wow quest. so disappointed, lucky the card game itself is awesome

  5. I wanted to like this game, I really like the card load out skill idea, but that is the only thing the game has going for it. It is one of the most P2W games I have ever seen, why on earth they thought it was a good idea to lock a class behind RNG loot boxes is beyond me..

  6. Even on my rig the game performs like utter garbage. Running a 3090 and a 5950x with 64GB. It's laggy, it's stuttery and it can't even be played in fullscreen mode, because it gets the aspect ratio wrong. Like how can a beta be so bad?

  7. I put in about 3 hours and still don't have a full deck of 12 cards… one of the most fun about magic is being creative and crafting a deck that fits your style… it shouldn't take hours on hours of grinding to get to the "starting point" of MTG.

  8. Its utter tripe. Shallow, mobile cash grab. I am thinking of sending them a food parcel, as i didn't realise they were this desperate for some loose change.

  9. the game doesnt even run barely on the lowest settings… and i can play most games on low settings currently at least 75-100 fps…. this game wont even play….terrrible….terrible…terrible….

…omg ive played MTG since Ice Age….
ive played more magic than i could ever add up….I love MTG….the lore… the card game….

….but my god….what the hell did they do….

    such a disapointment….100!

  10. Am I the only person enjoying this?

I usually only like crpgs and older mmos, but I really like the green class in this game. Maybe it get worse as you level, but I am legitimately having fun; primarily because I've been waiting so long for a game to give me a "druidish" type character who can summon.

  11. What hype? Literally from the drop everyone's been shitting on this game my dude. You're just passing in an ocean of pisdy being like, "don't trust the water its awfully pissy over here!" XD

  12. im a lvl 19 necromancer, i've played this long just becouse im playing it with friends and im having a good time… but i really agree with you, this is so unpolished and cluncky that it feels like an Alpha state of the game.
I will continue to play becouse i really enjoy the magic: the gathering lore and world. and i think is really well represented in the game…
But I could not agree more with you and your complains, nice video

  13. So,I've tried it, same as you, the beginning, as Necromancer. The GUI is a mess, the physics are a mess, the gameplay is kinda okay but the skills are hard to differentiate from one another since they all have the same color and complex artworks.
Honestly, I've seen better in Free-Creation games (Dreams, Core, etc) done by random people. Magic Legends is not the work of professionals.

  14. Yeah, the biggest issue i have with the game is that it feels very laggy, both FPS wise and input lag wise, i got a pretty decent PC (RTX 2070, Rysen 7, 32GB mem), and I get like 60-70 fps on lowest settings.. WTH? And the game itself feels like its 300ms to the servers which makes me bored instantly when it feels like im playing a game on a 56k modem when I got 250mbit fiber… could've been a awesome game, but instead the outcome of the game is gonna kill the player base and it becomes another game that gets put on the shelf to collect dust.
