Magic Legends is a brand new ARPG that just released on Epic Games, I played it for some time. I think whoever said “yes this is ready to be released to the public” should honestly have a word with themselves. Aside from that, it’s pretty bad in terms of just about any reason to play an ARPG and there’s almost zero reason to play this over the competitors in the genre…But before you even get into why exactly it’s a bad arpg, you’re already 14 minutes deep into ranting about the absolutely ridiculous cash shop, the terrible optimisation, the server lag, the map, the controls…It’s just not a good game. Some people I’m sure will be upset by my opinion and really like it. But man this was such a let down as there’s actual cool mechanics in here. The collection aspect is cool but so badly implemented that 6 hours in you’ve hardly managed to customise your character at all. Just feels like a pure mobile game straight up.
“Ancient forces move in the darkness and it’s up to you to walk the planes of the Magic Multiverse to gather the power needed to fight this evil. Choose your path through diverse planes, collect unique spells, Artifacts, and Equipment to create powerful loadouts, and control the chaos of battle as you fight to save the Multiverse from its greatest threat yet.”

Hopefully they will try to make it at least decent to play. I hoped it will be a good game, but in this state it's pretty bad. The equipment system is awful, fast travel is on the same key as equipment and deck which makes you constantly switch between tabs in the menu coz someone thought it will be a good idea to put everything on the same key.
The pay to win is bad to the point where it is not even worth it to pay and win.
GGG pls dont learn from this game.. lol
I like most of your content but from what i have seen here, this is a beta, thats what a beta is for, finding bugs and fixing final balancing stuff. Thats what it ment to be before big companys made beta a marketing term for selling extra stuff
And yeah the shop is crap
Considering what they did to Neverwinter, I really shouldn't be surprised. They take iconic IPs and try to turn them into money printers with p2w gear shops and loot boxes.
Game is a flop in its current state. the tutorial is mind numbingly boring. This is a mobile game 100%.
I was done with WOTC after they dropped Thrones of eldraine. The company is dead to me, idc what they do anymore anything they touch is going to be dogshit
It's actually an open beta for the mobile Diablo game.
Why? Why are they treating an MtG game like it's Yugioh? I was part of the old closed beta and I hate this thing.
Like, a Yugioh game being a card game makes sense because Yugioh is a card game in its own universe. Magic. Is. Not. A. Card. Game. In. Universe. That was the first thing that completely turned me off.
Magic is suck a vast, expansive multiverse that the fact they wasted it on this just makes me sick.
And the worst is that Cryptic made two of my favorite MMO games: City of Heroes and Champions Online.
cash grab. thanks for warning
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti here and its running OK, its not best but i can run without lags. Tho i agree the game is in bad state as it is rn, its a huge disappointment.
Spot on
While I agree with your sentiments I do have one disagreement regarding hitting a wall if not boosted with $. I’m able to clear 1k load out missions sub 400 load out score. That being said, it’s more of the same with this genre and while fun gets old quick and basically is the hamster wheel meets conveyer belt.
I do enjoy the pvp dueling. Unfortunately pwalker levdl provides a disproportionate matchup. Perhaps if both players are level 320 with rank maxed spells in the deck it may prove a bit more level headed – I likely won’t be able to grind that far as the monotony tires me out and I often have to take a break.
Same story though. Daily chore work, exacerbated by daily/weekly caps in progression.
Just watching the character turn in different directions alone looks absolutely terrible.
game isn't even fun that's the big issue
Finally a youtuber who talk the real about this game!!! all the youtubers i've seen keep defending this game and say it's just a open beta it's not done yet!! ok so what about that they have a fully loaded in-game shop that is fully functional and ready to be used while at the same time screaming at you that it's just a open beta -.-' the game runs like shiiiiiiiiiiiiitttt lagging like helllll…played it for few hours and couldn't keep playing this garbage until it's done!!! and just with a glance at the ingame shop i understanded that this game will be a heavy PayToWiiiiiin game where you have to buy xp boost and damage boost to be able to get further if your not gonna play it 24/7….ruining a good idea with their greed!!!!
Yeah, we knew this would be garbage when they announced it being done by Perfect World. And yeah, I agree with everything you said. I too, knew this would be bad, but holy shit I wasn't prepared for just how bad it is. You would think, a developer like Cryptic, who has built several MMO's (Champions, Star Trek Online & Neverwinter) would have some kind of a clue on how to build a game. It's almost as if every developer in the studio who has worked on previous games…didn't work on this one…and instead the brand new interns (freshly hired college students) were given the task of putting this game together. It looks, feels like and plays like a fucking college project.
This game is hot garbage. The whole game is a meme, there is no way they made this game with a straight face. They were not serious when they made it. It has to be an early April Fools joke
Its fun as hell to me it’ll hold me until diablo 4 comes out. People nitpick everything just chill and have fun for once in your life 😂 dont gotta spend money i sure aint
From what ive seen EVERY MONATIZATION SCHEME IS IN THIS GAME…maybe not lootboxes, but the mechanic is there.
Personally, I was quite hyped for the rotation of "cards" (abilities) thing – and that aspect I do like from the like hour i played
but O MY GOD, the lag is just insane. I was playing on a 2070 – the game utilizes 50% of my GPU and 50% of my CPU, SOMETHING isn't right there.
I had an average FPS of 30. That is INSANE.
And that cash shop… yeah, that's the pin in the coffin isn't it?
A shame, because I think the concept is fine – the card collecting and shit. But it feels like they dropped the ball anywhere they could
Why do you say "the developers don't give a sh.." the developers don't decide how many time and resources are spent on a game or when will the game be released. If you think that the game is shit because of the developers you really are oblivious about how the game industry works.
This game had to have been a mobile game and then swapped to pc sometime late in development. It feels absolutely awful to play.
Started to play Lost Ark today, and now magic legends looks like old school runescape to me
I know why it is in open beta!
Cash shop isn't finished yet. They still have to implement the "unlock fps limit" purchase.
I tried to play this game as a Mind Mage, but oof it felt like controlling a slow big floating pokemon with water attacks. There is no dodge, just an awkward W ability that lets you move a bit faster for a short time. Technically there's the teleport card, but who the heck saves one entire card slot (thats 50%!) just to dodge? That's 50% dps gone. There really is no other way than to slowly float away….(which i failed a few times, and still got hit by a enemy's very slow but powerful attacks, or trying to avoid ground aoe damage)
It's sad. Plus, I tried the tailor shop, put on a helmet, decide I didn't like it, and removed the helmet. NOW MY CHARACTER IS PERMANENTLY BALD.
Thanks, game. She now looks like Dr. Strange's teacher from the movie. 😐
Great videos…was dev by Cryptic Studio…
After spending much $$$ in Neverwinter, I knew Cryptic would overmonetize Magic Legends.
I still want to try the game when it finally hits console, but I don't expect to play it alot.
Seems like nothing improved since alpha. Still the shittiest optimization for an isometric game I’ve ever seen. Still RNG abilities. Still p2w AF.
And none of it comes as a surprise to me. It’s Cryptic Studios, Perfect World Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast. The greediest combo in the world. Remember Neverwinter? Yeah, they made that.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
It.. is… awful.
Weird… I have a GTX 1060 and I'm experiencing none of the optimization issues you're describing.
The MTX experience you're describing is similar to how they use it in their other games. That's just Cryptic / Perfect World in a nutshell. And Magic: The Gathering is much worse because you can't play the card game without buying at least the starter pack, soooo… I think it translates okay, all things considered. I'm only about an hour in, but as a filthy casual, I don't feel the need to buy literally anything. And considering I spent $0 on it, I think it's a good beginning experience. If it gets too difficult to the point that it's not fun, I'll just stop playing.
Could have been a good one, but the greed totaled it.
“Some people will use it to defend the game’s issues”. And that’s why they called it an open beta.
I always liked to try the games even when the opinions are so bad, just to discover they are not as bad, but lately these game are really that bad, depressing me a little every time, just started letting them go w/o a try…
"I've actually had fun playing it, but I know it's absolutely fucked, and there's no way they make this game better."
This hurts to read, but alas, it's probably the case. Here's to hoping.
old games used to have tutorials to teach you the game, modern games explain you how to use the cash shop so you can play the game… I did laugh out loud looking at their long webpage explaining all the thingsyou can buy in the shop. Surprised you liked the game, I couldn't get passed 20 mins
Every game from cryptic is like this , I just ignore everything from them . Learnt the hard way .
This game getting killed everywhere. People who spent 500+ for one class gonna be suppppppppppppppppper pissed when they see the new patch notes. And literally the shill defense force on reddit said exactly what you said about the p2w aspect
Bruh wtf, I thought it might be something but wow, that in game currency from Cash currency is already way too obvious LOL.
fastest uninstall of my life 😀
When you're just starting, don't ever pick blue. Like don't. Red is really the best color to start with since it thrashes the most damage.
imo you shouldn't have payed into the cash shop i get it you wanted to review the game, we know what the cash shop does in a game like this.
so it's like genshin impact, but shit? I mean at least genshin impact gave like 30 hours of fun, as a free player, without having to really grind.
Terrible mobile game
I literally played this game for 20 minutes and i knew it was garbage
3rd video in a row that confirms pay to win. thank you youtubers! ready to uninstall this shit.
Oh gawd yes it was choppy and clunky as crap no matter what settings I put it on and my beast runs everything else I've ever thrown at it on Ultra then theres this whole pay wallet booster pack crap in an open beta no thankee!!!!
No offense dude, but a good chunk of your points just aren't correct.. I've spent about $100 on this game so far (huge MTG Fan) and friends who spent 0, are just as strong as I am. It all comes down to random gear that you get (drops or from the cards). So someone with AMAZING luck who spends money COULD be stronger, it's not a FOR SURE thing though. Game was also made for Console, that's why the UI and Menus are how they are. Does it excuse it? Not really, but it makes more sense seeing it that way. The gear I think does need work yes, but they had NO Gear for most of the development, but then they heard people would prefer to have gear AND cards, so they made a gear system. You also CAN NOT buy actual spells from the cash shop. You can only earn spells from drops, or make them at your base (which takes ingame mats, not cash shop currency). All you can get from the cash shop are spell pages, and that can help you upgrade your spells further, faster. You can earn pleanty though just playing. 6 hours is nothing with this game sadly, it shows more and more the further you get into it (which is good and bad). Looking forward to hearing your full thoughts after more time with the game.
adding another mmo news:: NCSoft Aion North America is providing new event boost which allows level 01 new characters jump to level 80 in couple of hours.
