  1. I kind of wish all the resources used here were implemented to making MTG Arena able to handle multiplayer… and its version of Commander with Historic Brawl….

  2. I tried this game when it came out, it was fine and it had some nice ideas, but it was extremely bland and uninspiring, so I understand why this happened.

  3. It's a shame that Magic Legends tanked since the idea is interesting.

It's clear that WotC should just lease out the license of MtG to other video game publishers. Maybe a Zelda-like clone across key parts of the Multiverse to fight against the forces of an evil Planeswalker during the pre-mending era?

  4. Well there goes the only reason I was bothering with this franchise, since the card game itself is nothing but a wallet siphon. I guess I wish you guys luck and hopefully you don't go bankrupt from your addiction.

  5. Wizards greed back at it again. Whatever ip they have that doesn't make them millions gets shafted instantly. Greed, plain and simple. Wizards/hasbro are the greediest fuckers alive

  6. I'm a fan of the MtG lore and I really gave a chance to this game, and I still quit in like 2 weeks. Nothing grabbed my interest enough. I couldn't force myself to pay attention to the story, or understand the multiple progression systems. The visuals were pretty and walking around hitting things was alright, but the game felt very repetitive and a waste of time.

  7. Fans: “Low-budget, single player, randomly generated deck-builders are dominating the indie market so…”
    Wizards: “We’re making an ARPG.”

  8. I strongly disagree on the whole part of "if anybody can already play it, it's not a beta anymore". Early access and open betas serve as an important phase of game development. It's a great way of collecting data and feedback while some parts of a game are not fully fleshed out yet. Also players know they have to anticipate bugs and technical issues. They also usually know the game may change drastically depending on the feedback and – in some cases – may never see a full release if the developer or publisher judges the game to be a failure.

However, as a developer you can still be proud, even if a game gets cancelled. There are multiple different reasons why a game may get shut down. What you said is disrespectful of all the designers, writers and programmers that poured their heart and soul into crafting the game.

  9. Most of the cancelled speak is PR-speak and you really shouldn' t read to much in it. Personally, knowing how difficult world building in games can be even with good lore base I would start small. Choose a plane with an overall fairly easy lore setting and focus on just that plane. For Instant Innistrat and then the block were Avacyn is missing. It gives you one bbig story a clear plane most people can relate to (Classic zombies, werewolves and vampires) and it's a bit behind the current lore so you can expend without having to ' fumble' new lore out of no where (think how bad GOT season 8 was). Then if that is a success expend yearly or bi-yearly using the existing game engine and lore with a new plane. Kind of like World of Warcraft in that sense.

I can see the Innistrat part already with a Markov manor dungeon, a Ludvedic laboratory dungeon and an Ulvenwald dungeon. Then a fight in the Cathedral dungeon to free Avacyn. Then later with a new expension we get to planeswalk to a different plane like Zendikar of Mirrodin. Ultimatly as the game grows you can become more freely in your planeswalking.
